Golden Ratio Frequencies are pleased to host the first full length offering from Canadian psychonaut multi-media artist/producer Derek McKeon’s new project Ozone.

Serving as a counterpoint to his long standing buoyant psych project ZONES, Ozone is McKeon’s rather more stripped back, weightless iteration of his psychic sonic explorations. While ZONES elicits ecstatic dance/trance floor states, Ozone invites a space for meditation and deep listening.

Debut album SKYRYKS is a soundtrack to a long form trance-state of consciousness, rippling like a rainbow reflection on water. A far-out full-spectrum ambient suite of nine synthesizer explorations to survey the scenery of the Ozone atmosphere: digi pan-flute and windchimes flutter on early berlin-school electronics that dissolve into candle-lit farfisa incantations.

Flip the tape to float down the warm lazy river of your mind, or dive into the welcoming peaceful tones and bathe in the river of reflections. Waves of calm meditative energy and watery tones surround you while lo-bit 90s romplers swim with vintage polysynths all smeared in an iridescent sheen. This celestial manifesto is declared with opener “011321”, all cascading granular bit crushed wavetable synthesizer pads washing down over soft bubbles of bass and augmented by gentle electronic pan flutes, reminiscent of MatthewDavid’s Mindflight excursions.

A heavenly aura is continued elsewhere with tracks such as “Water Wave”, “Mind Mirror” and “Raw Reality”, full of dream-like haze and liquid textures, whereas tracks like "Sky’s Nite" take a slightly darker mysterious air evoking the late trans millenia consort, Pauline Anna Strom. Though the usual beats and drums present in McKeons ZONES project may be absent here, SKYRYKS retains plenty of groove, as evident on the albums second half with pieces such as “Clear Light”, “Memory Ball” and “Hour 5” awash with splashy rhythms and dripped out percussive pulse patterns, as though J D Emmanuel and Bitchin Bajas are part of some kind of alchemical synthesis on a Dan Gibson Solitude tape, inducing infectious hypnagogic head bops for even the most languid of head trip listeners.

Born out of meditative healing and inner exploration for McKeon, the music acting as a tool to channel feelings and sonic emotions, the tracks that make up SKYRYKS serve as a spiritual and creative divining rod to light and insight.
Throughout SKYRYKS, dark comes to light and the harmony of the cosmos reflects itself in an infinite recursion to find a mirror of your mind in the forms and sounds of music. So lay back, close your eyes, and feel your body dissipate and merge as one with the Ozone.

Physical copies manifest in limited edition pro-dubbed c45 Cassette on Frosted Aqua recycled cassette shell with on body print, full colour double sided 4 panel inlay with stunning retro-futuristic visionary art by McKeon themselves, and as always, a silk screen printed Golden Ratio Spiral acetate.
