about

Golden Ratio Frequencies are happy to announce our first release of the year, a new suite of drone works from long time spectral electronica artist WORRIEDABOUTSATAN.

Founded by Gavin Miller in Bradford, West Yorkshire in 2006 WORRIEDABOUTSATAN have released over 12 albums and EPs which span the spectrum of ecstatic guitar led post-rock-tronica, Boards of Canada style glitch works, stirring melancholic ambience and pounding industrial techno garnering the attention and admiration of Pitchfork, FACT, Drowned in Sound, Resident Advisor, 6 Music, and The Guardian, whilst sharing stages with the likes of Olaf Andars and 65 Days of Static and having music placed in film and TV works such as Adam Curtis’ HyperNormalisation (of which Miller was the Music Supervisor) and even on long running British soap opera Coronation Street.

Hot on the heels of a slew of recent releases from Miller, we welcome his latest Satan offering, “I HOPE YOU LIKE THE BUNDESLIGA”.
Four pieces of brooding, enveloping raincloud drone, that pull the listener inward through a gravitational force of tones and sustain in a much more subdued, introspective and contemplative energy than previous Satan works.

Says Miller of the album;
“The tracks themselves were sort of nameless experiments I did after I received a new pedal for my birthday a few years ago [Electro Harmonix Freeze]. I wanted to have fun with it and try out some really minimal tone based stuff, as I usually try and do the opposite with satan - it's all beats and bass and weird samples for the most part, so this was a way of getting out of that and trying something new and just letting these tones drift as long as possible without it sounding boring. I recorded them live and worked the delay pedals a little bit, so there are these tiny little fluctuations in every track as they bobble along. Blink and you'll miss ‘em.”

And of the slightly perplexing football inspired title:
“The title was a little joke I had with my girlfriend, as I was getting into German football (forza St. Pauli!) and became fairly insufferable on the subject..!”

Miller’s time as musical supervisor for English filmmaker Adam Curtis’ much praised brain twisting docu-films “HyperNormalisation” (2016) and “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” (2021) feels present within these works; a foundation of underlying unease and dreamlike dread is perfectly punctuated with gentle emotion, connection and contemplation. Two mood states seemingly at odds, yet ultimately coalescing in mesmerising beauty.
Indeed, these four pieces drift and glow, emanating a psychoacoustic hypnotism. The dense 12 minute opener “ Part I (Munich)” recalls a subdued half-life of Coil’s drone benchmark Time Machines or Anthony Childs’ more hallucinodronicgenic creations in a hazy fog of vibratory transcendence, whereas elsewhere the B-side’s 10 minute “Part III (Dresden)” embraces the listener in shimmering stretched strings and processed guitar feedback phosphorescence, holding the listener in a weightless homeostasis not too far away from Stars of the Lid or Kieth Fullerton Whitman’s flotation works

I Hope You Like The Bundesliga more than just presents another colour in the prismatic arc of Worriedaboutsatan’s vast catalogue, but invites us into what may be the projects most serine, delicate and personal yet. Lie back, close your eyes, and let it all go(al).

Physical editions will be manifest in a limited run of pro-dubbed C35 cassette on classic GRFRQ clear/black lined cassette shell with on body print, full colour double sided four panel inlay and adorned, as always, with a screen printed Golden Ratio spiral.

Pre-Order begins 3rd of March, with full release and shipping from 3rd of April.
